The President of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, was informed, this Tuesday (12), in Luanda, by the ambassador accredited to the country, Shimon Solomon, about Israel’s intention to intensify parliamentary ties and expand, as a result, , cooperation in education, information and communication technologies and agriculture.

The Israeli ambassador to Angola, Shimon Solomon, advanced the claim to the press, after the audience with the President of the National Assembly, and mentioned, by the way, that he knew well the parliamentary dynamics. “I come from a Parliament, and I know how things work. I have a lot of energy to maintain an exchange with Angola in this sense”, he said, alluding that Israel’s ambitions are very strong. “We have very clear ambitions in this regard, but we don’t need to run, we’ll get there slowly.”

Angola and Israel meanwhile maintain a properly structured framework in various areas of bilateral relations, with emphasis on humanitarian areas, health, aviation, construction, fisheries, diamonds, security and telecommunications. “Now, we intend to intensify this cooperation, making it more productive”, underlined the diplomat.

“We have common interests and, therefore, our intention is to work with greater engagement in the aforementioned areas”, said the ambassador, stressing that Israel is a partner of the Angolan Government, which highly values ​​political and friendly relations. “We are partners of the Government”, stressed the diplomat.

When answering a question about the holding of future elections in Angola, the Israeli ambassador, Shimon Solomon, said that his country wants them to take place in a political environment of great responsibility, and that they are democratic and peaceful.

The new Israeli ambassador to Angola, born in the Tigray region, Ethiopia, having emigrated to Israel in 1980, as part of Operation “Brothers”. Between 2005 and 2007, he worked at the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa, before becoming director of an Immigrant Absorption Center in Beersheba.

The diplomat has also worked as Director of Education in the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village, a community that includes mostly vulnerable young people from Rwanda.
