Africa-Press – Angola. The new ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire, Jean-Marie Somet, said yesterday, in Dundo, province of Lunda-Norte, that he is interested in strengthening economic diplomacy with investments in the agriculture sector.

Speaking to the press after being received by the governor, Deolinda Vilarinho, as part of the two-day work agenda in Lunda-Norte, the diplomat stated that he intends to strengthen the good relations that exist with the Angolan State, whose priority is to strengthen of agribusiness.

Jean-Marie Somet said that during the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in Luanda, in addition to analyzing the current state of bilateral relations, one of the subjects that dominated the conversation was the need for the Côte d ‘Ivoire transmit its experience in Agriculture to Angola.

According to the ambassador, this is intended to increase the bases for the challenges launched by the Angolan Executive, aimed at diversifying economic potential, taking into account that Côte d’Ivoire has a strong tradition in the large-scale cultivation of products such as cocoa and fruits.

“We have a strong tradition in the field of agriculture and we produce cocoa, cashew, pineapple, banana and other fruits on a large scale. Therefore, we want to transmit our strength, taking advantage of Angola’s economic potential to invest here, with the aim of increasing foundations of the challenges launched by the Executive of President João Lourenço”, he reinforced.

The diplomat added that he will not only confine himself to Luanda, as the intention is to work and get to know all the provinces of Angola to identify the existing potential.

Jean-Marie Somet underlined that, since the presentation of the credentials to the Angolan Head of State, Lunda-Norte is the first province he has visited. In this region, there is a vast community of Ivorian citizens.

In addition to studying potential areas for investment, the purpose of the trip is to meet with compatriots residing in Lunda-Norte, where the Consulate of Côte d’Ivoire intends, soon, to start a census to determine the number of compatriot citizens and regularize the migratory situation.

The ambassador’s visit program includes meetings with the business class of the municipalities of Chitato and Lucapa. In the last one, Jean-Marie Somet will have to meet with the community of his country.

In turn, the governor of Lunda-Norte, Deolinda Vilarinho, said that during the meeting with the ambassador she was informed about the intention to receive, soon, an invitation from the diplomatic representation of Côte d’Ivoire to visit that country.

He considers that it will be positive, given the experience that the country has accumulated in the field of agriculture, and is therefore awaiting the formalization of the invitation to travel with a delegation to Côte d’Ivoire in the first half of next year.

Deolinda Vilarinho said that, as soon as the conditions are created, the mission of the Government of Lunda-Norte to Côte d’Ivoire may include the directors of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports offices.
