Africa-Press – Angola. Jemima Paulo hoisted the national flag at the highest place on the podium of the African Under-16 Women’s Chess Championship, after winning the gold medal last Saturday in Lusaka, capital of Zambia.
Likewise, the Angolan Alexandre Próspero, in men’s Under-18, snatched the silver medal. In parallel with the final classification, the two won the Master Fide (MF) title, while Jaime Sonhy (Men’s Under-16) took bronze and won the Master Candidate (CM) title.
Jemima, assigned to the Ditrov School, snatched the gold with just one defeat, totaling eight points out of nine. In turn, Prospero, from ASA, achieved the feat thanks to seven victories and two defeats.
In the competition, played in the Swiss system, Angola participated with eight chess players in the under-18, 16, 14 and 12 categories, in both sexes.
In the note published on the official page of the Angolan Chess Federation (FAX), on the social network Facebook, the management of the governing body thanks all the members of the delegation present in Lusaka, for their commitment, spirit of sacrifice and abnegation, in representing the country with dignity. and raise the Angolan flag high.
The acknowledgments of the governing body are extended to all the institutions that made it possible for the National Team to participate in Africans, in particular the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as stated in the document.
