Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic held, this Wednesday (20), by telephone, a conversation with the Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, through which they discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations.
The head of the Italian Government had a scheduled visit to Angola this week, but ended up canceling it at the last minute for health reasons. To compensate for the impossibility of the Italian Prime Minister coming to Luanda, Rome sent the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, who was received, yesterday, in the late afternoon, by the President of the Republic, at the Government Palace , to the Upper City.
After leaving the meeting, Luigi Di Maio, who arrived in Luanda in the late afternoon of the same day, did not make statements to the press. Meanwhile, a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that Luigi Di Maio and the delegation accompanying him went, just yesterday, to its premises, in downtown Luanda, to witness the signing of the Declaration of Intent for Cooperation in the Domain Energetic, signed, on the Angolan side, by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, and, on the Italian side, by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani.
According to the note, the Italian Government considers Angola a priority country for the cooperation strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa since 1989, being the third partner after South Africa and Nigeria.
The document adds that both countries signed, in July 1997, a new Bilateral Cooperation Agreement, more articulated and structured, in order to boost cooperation. The two countries have already held six sessions of the Bilateral Commission, which served for the discussion and approval of the Triennial Programs that involve cooperation actions and projects in the most varied domains.
Audience for the Russian Ambassador
The President of the Republic received, yesterday, at the Government Palace, in Cidade Alta, the Russian ambassador to Angola, Vladimir Tararov, with whom he discussed matters of bilateral interest.
At the end of the meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, the Russian diplomat stressed that the audience was used to talk about the possibility of developing cooperation, in this phase of slowing down of the Covid-19 pandemic in both countries.
“This opens up scope for strengthening cooperation”, stressed Vladimir Tararov, for whom the idea is to expand the scope to the fields of Economy, Politics and other sectors.
