João Lourenço calls for greater frontality in the management of global crises

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, called, this Tuesday, for greater frontality and courage from the international community in managing global crises.

João Lourenço was speaking during the official banquet hosted by the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk-Yeol, as part of his two-day official visit to this Asian country.

In his intervention, he said that “we live in an increasingly troubled world”, with old conflicts that cannot be resolved and new ones that are emerging, across all regions of our planet.

For this reason, he argued that it was time to mobilize the international community to face these problems “head-on and with courage” in order to find solutions to them, in order to prevent them from lasting or worsening, “to the point of degenerating into conflicts of overall dimension”.

In this context, he considered that the efforts being made by this country to alleviate the tension that hangs over the Korean peninsula should be encouraged, considering that only the path of dialogue and understanding between peoples and nations will contribute to the end of conflicts, however intricate they may be.

For the statesman, this must be the perspective to consider when approaching the disputes that currently persist, in which context “I include the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, which deserves a solution that safeguards the integrity of the Ukrainian nation”.

He also said that the serious conflict taking place in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine has been witnessed with concern, which has had broad regional repercussions, with the risk of escalating into a worrying confrontation between several countries in that area, which “already begins to happen with the direct military intervention of other actors”.

These aspects, he highlighted, must be the subject of very special attention and concern on the part of the entire international community, in order to act so that Israel and Iran maintain the maximum possible containment.

“We are aware that there will be no solution to the Middle East problem if the interests of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state are not taken into account,” he said.

Regarding the African continent, he said that the fight against unconstitutional changes of power and terrorism in some countries continues, particularly in the Sahel region and West and Central Africa.

He also stressed that the situation in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) appears to be quite worrying, judging by the high number of deaths, injuries, internally displaced people and refugees they create, the great destruction of infrastructure and theft of mineral resources. and other national wealth.

“We have been working to help these countries find ways of dialogue to achieve lasting peace and thus be able to dedicate themselves to the economic and social development of their respective countries and the regional communities in which they are located”, he concluded.
