Africa-Press – Angola. University professor Carlos Calongo appealed, in Ndalatando, Cuanza-Norte province, to journalists to avoid publishing information that incites hatred and promotes political instability during the election period.
Speaking yesterday on the theme “Freedom of the Press in the light of the new Penal Code”, promoted by the Social Communication Regulatory Authority (ERCA), he highlighted the limits imposed by law on the exercise of journalistic activity and the criminal liability of professionals for crimes committed under the current Angolan Penal Code.
“Freedom of the press is not absolute, but it is subject to limits in light of the Constitution and the Law, and professionals who violate the principles of ethics and deontology are subject to penalty”, underlined the journalist.
He urged journalists to avoid publishing false and unreliable news that instigate crime and political instability, under penalty of being subject to penalties for slander, slander and defamation.
On the other hand, Carlos Calongo expressed his concern, with the lack of technical and material conditions that some media are struggling with.
He stressed that this reality can make it difficult for professionals to carry out their tasks impartially and provoke unpleasant reactions on the part of some political actors.
The lack of conditions, he continued, leads professionals from some media to act in dependence on the promoters of the activities, especially in terms of means of transport.
Professionals from various local media, members of Defense and Security bodies, as well as guests participated in the lecture.
