Africa-Press – Angola. More than 60 athletes from the beginner and junior categories of both sexes will compete, Saturday (24), in Luena, Moxico province, for the 2nd edition of the Judo tournament called “Taça Judoquinha”, promoted by the provincial Association of the sport .
Several academies can participate in this tournament, with emphasis on Bravos do Maquis, 22 de Novembro, Jovens de Hoje, Perigo, Vila Luso, Coliseu, Dragão Sai Fogo, Família Sardinha.
The president of the Association, Osvaldo Paiva Zangata, said that the tournament, part of “children’s month”, aims to improve the technique and tactics of the youngsters.
In the tournament, he said, there will be individual and collective fights, involving children from five to 15 years old, in the categories from 22 to 66 kilograms.
He added that the event is of a charitable nature, which will make it possible to collect non-perishable food items to be directed to reception centers in the city of Luena.
Osvaldo Zangata considered the growth of the sport in the province of Moxico to be satisfactory, having doubled the number of athletes in the last two years, reaching 380 practitioners.
The modality is only practiced in four of the nine municipalities that make up the province of Moxico (Cameia, Luacano, Luau and Moxico).
The first edition of the “Judoquinhas” children’s tournament, held in 2022, was won by the Perigo academy in the 35, 50 and 56 kilogram categories.
