Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, arrived last night on the island of São Vicente, in Cape Verde, as part of the second day of his state visit to the archipelago’s sister country.
On a visit to Mindelo City Hall, in the company of his Cape Verdean counterpart, José Maria das Neves, he symbolically received the key to the city from the mayor, Augusto Neves.
Speaking at the ceremony, which was attended by the First Ladies of the Republic of Angola and Cape Verde, members of the Executive, the President of the Municipal Assembly of São Vicente and local councilors, the Angolan Head of State thanked the people of São Vicente Island for the distinction and promised to reciprocate the gesture on future visits. “This distinction is an opportunity they give me, to pay a debt, because, over the years, as a politician and friend of the brother people of Cape Verde, I made many work visits to other islands and cities, but I never had the opportunity to pass through Mindelo”, emphasized João Lourenço, adding: “I have many Cape Verdean friends in São Vicente, and I feel that I have debts for never having passed through this wonderful city.
For the Mayor of Mindelo, the State visit is an expression of the excellent brotherhood relations between the two fraternal peoples and solidarity between the two countries. Augusto Neves added that, despite the changes that are currently taking place around the world,
The history that unites the two countries remains profoundly healthy, and which has served to relaunch multiform and mutually beneficial cooperation. “We count on Angola and your people, Mr President, to support the mobilization of Angolan investors, to continue to flock to our island of São Vicente”, stressed the mayor, Augusto Neves.
Technical University of the Atlantic
Following the visit, after the Municipality of Mindelo, the Head of State visited the Universidade Técnica do Atlântico, which has four organizational units, including the Higher Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, the Institute of Tourism and Aeronautics, the Faculty of Engineering and Marine Sciences, as well as the University Institute of Art, Technologies and Culture.
During a guided tour, in one of the rooms, João Lourenço was informed about simulation classes and maritime maneuvers. On the occasion, the President of the Republic was invited to pilot a boat in the simulator, an action that left the instructors amazed, given the knowledge that the Angolan statesman demonstrated, on a route that connects the city of Mindelo to Lisbon. Before leaving the institution, the illustrious visitor, João Lourenço, left, in the honor book, the following: “Cape Verde is a successful house in the merchant navy, with high standard training of its own sailors. Angola will take advantage of this capacity of training that Cape Verde offers, so that our professionals obtain the necessary follow-up and international certification, and enable them to work anywhere in the world”.
