Africa-Press – Angola. The Kikuxi Villas Club Academy women’s tennis team will represent Angola in the African zone of the Fed Cup international tournament, to be played from June 5th to 10th, in Kigali, Rwanda.

According to the vice-president of the Angolan Tennis Federation (FAT), João Sanda, the indication of the association from Luanda, replacing the National Team, is due to the institution’s lack of resources.

He added that the choice of the Club of the Municipality of Viana is also related to its work in favor of the development of the modality, as well as the results of its tennis players in internal and external competitions.

The Fed Cup, which takes place by continental zones, is a competition on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) calendar.

In the capital of Rwanda, players from 11 African countries will be involved.

The delegation, led by coach João Almeida, includes tennis players Miria Tuluca, Gabriela Martins and Mariana da Costa, national champions in different categories.

The delegation’s trip, paid for by the club, takes place on June 4th.

Remember, about 15 years ago, there was an intention for the Angolan team to participate in this ITF event.

Guided by coach Genivaldo Dias, the team consisted of practitioners Ana Gonga (CTL), Eunice Teixeira (Sagrada Esperança), Cira Paim and Aida Basílio (IMEL), in the mandate of then president Rosa Lopes, in the direction of FAT.
