Africa-Press – Angola. The country can start manufacturing small, medium and large ships within two years, in an initiative of the South Korean Economic Development Association (AKEDA).

The information was provided, on Friday, in Luanda, by the secretary general of the institution, Chung Si Noo, at the end of the audience granted by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in Cidade Alta.

Chung Si Noo said that, first, a naval base will be built to manufacture the ships, which will initially cost US$1 billion.

The secretary general of AKEDA, who did not mention the province of the country in which he intends to implement the project, announced that it will generate, in a first phase, 5,000 jobs, with the forecast of reaching 8,000. “We chose Angola for the implementation of this project because it is a viable country”, stressed the businessman, who said that he had taken advantage of the meeting with the President of the Republic to talk about the initiative.

The construction of a naval base is not the first project by AKEDA in Angola, which in 2020 invested around two million dollars in the construction of an electricity plant in Benguela, under the terms of a memorandum signed with the Private Investment and Promotion Agency. of Exports.
