Africa-Press – Angola. At least 18.7 million kwanzas were delivered to vulnerable families in the province of Benguela by the KWENDA Social Protection Strengthening Program.

Jasmim Ndatimana, the director of the Institute for Local Development in Benguela, said that KWENDA program has already reached 12 of the 23 municipalities in Benguela after initiating the process of social monetary transfers in the commune of Passe (Bocoio).

A total of 187,231 households have been registered, and 129,026 of them are currently receiving the monetary transfers. Of these households, 81,218 are headed by women.

Ndatimana stated that 51,438 beneficiary households are expected to receive aid in Bocoio and the new municipality of Chila. Each selected family receives 66,000 kwanzas, which corresponds to six months’ worth of payments.

Program management recommended that beneficiaries use the funds responsibly and rationally to improve their living conditions.

According to the official, the program’s success is due to discipline, methodological rigor, thrift, and responsibility in managing resources.

Bocoio’s municipal administrator, Herculano Neto, on his turn, urged families to manage the funds they received well by investing in income generation and food as a basis for production and the country’s development.

“This moment comes at a time when Angola is celebrating 50 years of national independence and 23 years of peace,” he emphasized.
