Africa-Press – Angola. The lack of financial support for the production of children’s books is one of the main factors for the current critical state of this literary field in the country, said writer John Bella.

In an interview, to address the state of production of children’s literature, the writer referred that, along with the scarcity of authors who write for children, the scarcity of support for literature and the non-channeling of books to schools strangle the entire teaching process. and learning.

He also pointed out the lack of incentives on the part of those who have the right to read and enjoy books, as responsible for gaps in the development of education and school failure.

For him, the legal structures should look at children’s literature in the same way as they look at didactic literature, in order to guarantee the richness of the narrative experience from the first years of the child’s life, aiming at the development of his logical and imaginary thinking .

In his opinion, the sooner the child has contact with books and perceives the pleasure that reading produces, the greater the probability of becoming an adult reader.

In the same way, through reading, he continued, the child acquires a critical-reflexive posture, extremely relevant to his cognitive formation.

Lack of return on investment

In turn, the also writer Cremilda de Lima stated that children’s and youth literature “does not go well”, however, mechanisms must be created to improve aspects of literary production, since the amount invested in publishing is not worth it.

The writer noted that at the level of the general and university education system there has been no massification or dissemination of literature, a fact that impoverishes, to a certain extent, the students’ vocabulary.

He stated that the country has many classic authors with works of great technical value, worthy of re-edition.

He pointed out, along with himself, Maria Eugénia Neto, Octaviano Correia, Maria Celestina Fernandes, Dário de Melo and Gabriela Antunes, Maria Pombal, Rosalina do Carmo, among other classics of Angolan children’s literature, holders of works that need to be spread throughout the country, to demonstrate to the current generation the contribution made to society.

In his opinion, what is published in Angola, in terms of literature, especially for children, “is still far from meeting the needs”.

For the author of the book “Animais que Encantam”, there is an urgent need for the mandatory implementation of the National Reading Plan, so that students, starting from the first years of schooling, read at least two books on a mandatory basis, to encourage them to read. .

According to the writer, it is essential to implement the National Reading Plan so that libraries, reading rooms with people trained in the area are installed in each school.

The head of the Angolan Writers’ Union library, Edmundo de Carvalho, made it known that, out of curiosity, several children from the Canine and Kiluange schools have requested attendance at the venue.

Edmundo de Carvalho understands that the high price for the production and acquisition of a children’s book has contributed to the lack of incentives for reading.

As a solution, he defended the construction of more than libraries, municipal and school media libraries with free services, ease of mobility, as well as opening on weekends.

He also said that it is necessary to implement narrators and storytellers in these institutions so that children gain a taste for reading and handling books.
