Africa-Press – Angola. The military Courts face countless difficulties due to the lack of infrastructures that dignify their justice operators, this Friday.

This is one of the conclusions of the nineteenth methodological and assessment meeting of the Courts of Military Jurisdiction, held over two days in the city of Lobito (Benguela), under the motto: Military Courts for a swift and efficient justice.

According to the document sent most of the Military Courts operate in leased premises that burden the Supreme Military Court’s budget.

However, it became clear that the military judicial magistrates continue to defend the basic principles of military construction, namely, hierarchy and discipline.

The participants, coming from the country’s 18 provinces, also concluded that military judicial magistrates should pay special attention to social networks, taking care with sharing information from non-credible and non-verifiable sources.

Regular inspections in order to assess the technical and professional performance of magistrates, the incentive to legal education work within the Defense and Internal Security bodies, as well as the institutionalization of the figure of the Judge of Guarantees in the Courts of Military Jurisdiction, were also reviewed at the meeting.

During the two days, topics such as information on the evolution of the world political and security situation, the entry into force of the Angolan penal code, the criminal procedure code and its implication in the Armed Forces were discussed.

The role of the Judge of Guarantees in military jurisdiction, the application of the Amnesty Law in military proceedings, the means of proof in military criminal proceedings and Habeas Corpus as a measure to defend individual freedom, were also among the various topics discussed at the 19th meeting methodology of the Courts of Military Jurisdiction.

Generals, senior officers and junior officers of the Angolan Armed Forces were present, with particular emphasis on General Cristo António Salvador Alberto, Venerable Juis Counselor and President of the Supreme Military Court (STM), who closed the forum.
