Lebanon highlights the importance of Angola in maintaining peace in Africa

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon, Abdallah Bou Habib, highlighted Wednesday, the role that the Angolan Executive has played in seeking and maintaining peace on the African continent and in the southern region, in particular.

During an audience with the Angolan ambassador to Lebanon, Nelson Cosme, in Beirut, the head of Lebanese diplomacy highlighted that “when we talk about maintaining peace in Africa”, mainly in the SADC region, Angola “is an unavoidable reference”, for who congratulated the Angolan Executive’s action in this area.

During the hearing, the best ways to increase trade between the two countries, due to current low levels, and how to establish bilateral political and diplomatic consultations, both at ministerial and ambassadorial level, were also discussed.

Continuously, the treatment of the six proposed bilateral cooperation agreements was addressed, namely, the Agreement in the Economic, Scientific and Cultural domains, Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultation Mechanisms, Agreement on Visa Exemption on Diplomatic, Service and Special Passports.

It also included the Agreement on the establishment of the Bilateral Commission, proposed by Angola, the agreements relating to the encouragement, promotion and protection of reciprocal investments, and Civil Aviation and Air Services, suggested by the Republic of Lebanon.

Regarding the Agreement on Political Consultations, Minister Abdallah Bou Habib reiterated that it had already been approved. Regarding Angola’s other three proposals, he gave instructions for them to be “quickly” finalized.

On the other hand, minister Abdallah Bou Habib announced an invitation, to be soon formalized through diplomatic channels, to his Angolan counterpart, Téte António, to make an official visit to Lebanon, later this year, in order to establish political consultations at the appropriate level and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

He considered that Angola is a priority for Lebanon in its relationship with Africa, due to the high presence of Lebanese citizens in the country, over four thousand, and their participation in the national economy.

The audience with ambassador Nelson Cosme, who has been in Beirut since Tuesday, at the invitation of the local authorities, was witnessed by ambassadors Rodrigue el Khourij and Hadi Jaber, respectively, directors for Africa and Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lebanon.

The Angolan diplomat’s agenda, residing in Cairo, also includes meetings with private and business entities.
