Africa-Press – Angola. Lia Lima’s fourth place, in the 100m butterfly event, was the highlight of the National Swimming Team’s performance, on the third day of the absolute African Championship, which takes place at the Alvalade pool, in Luanda.

The national sprinter left the audience “electrifying” in the stands, having been 0.33 tenths away from the bronze medal, finishing the course with a time of 1:03.53.

The first place on the podium went to the Senegalese, Diop (1:02.55).

The silver medal went to South African Jaime Mote (1:02.85), while the bronze went to Algerian Nesrine Medjahed (1:03.20).

Another notable note was the absence of sprinter Salvador Gordo, for health reasons, after suffering from respiratory problems in the 100m butterfly race to be eliminated, where he recorded the 10th best time (57.51).

Gordo’s departure resulted in changes to the final relay event of the 4x200m freestyle.

Meanwhile, Angola secured fourth place with a time of 8:19.17, in a race won by Egypt (7:33.92), followed by Algeria (7:41.35). South Africa was in third place (7:43.79).

With this result, Angola remains in eighth place with a silver medal, won by Lia Lima.

Egypt leads the medal table with 11 gold, eight silver and 10 bronze, South Africa is second with eight gold, 11 silver and five bronze.

Algeria is third with three gold, four silver and six bronze, Senegal is fourth with one gold, the same number of silver and three bronze.

Sudan is fifth with one gold and one silver, Mauritius is sixth with one gold, Uganda is seventh with one gold.

Tunisia and Ghana with a bronze medal each come in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
