Africa-Press – Angola. The story that (TPA) Angolan Public Television created around General Higino Carneiro is a blatant lie, as it is nothing more than tremendous fake news.
There is truly no CIA officer who provided illegal services that would have benefited General Higino Carneiro, the MPLA’s putative presidential candidate.
The fact is that General Higino Carneiro’s pre-candidacy, in itself, constituted a real impediment to General João Lourenço’s cunning plans to remain in power indefinitely.
A priori, and in theory, if we, citizens, were to waive our right to a contradictory opinion and allow President João Lourenço to carry out his power project without any disturbances, the right to progressive and democratic citizenship would be profoundly at risk, as we would be irrevocably persecuted, arrested, tortured and, if not even, murdered with diabolical refinements.
It is therefore important to urgently stop the attempts that the autocratic general-president wishes to carry out, using the remedies that the embryonic democratic rule of law makes available to us.
It’s clear to any even remotely attentive citizen that the president of the MPLA, and indeed of the Republic, disregards the law and ignores the Constitution whenever his personal interests are at stake. For the tyrant, only total control of power matters; to achieve this, even if it means bending the law and violating the Constitution, it will be done. Even if it’s something preponderantly criminal, João Lourenço will make it happen, in violation of the law and the Constitution, without hesitation, to remain in power.
In recent months, since General Higino Carneiro announced his intention to run for president of the MPLA, Angolans have witnessed the regime’s aggressive and uncontrolled escalation against him.
The danger of this scabrous escalation could increase. Avoiding this will depend on the direct involvement of the MPLA’s democratic activists in the conflict, helping to definitively defuse the confusion created by President João Lourenço.
There’s no point in recreating artificial conflicts or deepening empty crises without real substance to try to dissuade General Higino Carneiro from his legitimate intentions of running for president of the MPLA. The activists will stand on the side of truth, defending the interests of the community.
It is certain that intellectually honest activists must begin working now to build bridges of convergence, bringing General Higino Carneiro closer to activists aware of the need to change the negative path the party has been following for at least 50 years. Only then will it be possible to neutralize some of the hegemonic attempts and, together, put the party on the right path.
There’s no point in holding fluctuating marches with no political or ideological impact, simply to stroke the ego of the general-president, who has done everything to recreate and promote the now-defunct cult of personality in his favor. We all know about the millions spent by the party-state to mobilize people in Cacuaco, demonstrating supposed control over the population, when in reality, it controls nothing and no one.
To make matters worse, we will witness another MPLA demonstration, identical to the one in Cacuaco, taking place next Saturday, on the Catete road.
Let’s stay tuned, waiting for the next chapters of the Lourencista saga.
We are together.
