Africa-Press – Angola. In the coming days, Luanda province will receive 90 more buses to improve urban traffic, within the framework of the new political-administrative dynamics which also foresees the execution of projects aimed at meeting the needs of citizens.
The information was released yesterday by the governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem, at the end of the special session of the Council of Ministers, guided by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who analyzed the situation in the province, with emphasis on the projects to be completed and others. to implement.
Speaking to the press, Manuel Homem said that the placement of the new buses in the capital will result from a public tender aimed at operators. “We are going to launch a public tender for the placement of at least up to 90 buses, at the disposal of operators, in order to improve urban traffic”, stressed the governor, clarifying, then, that the initiative is part of a program supervised by the Ministry of Transport, which will reinforce the provinces with more buses.
Manuel Homem said that yesterday’s special session of the Council of Ministers, which X-rayed the province of Luanda, had as a “great objective” to list the priorities for its different projects, considering the impact that each of them will generate in the lives of citizens.
“This work session allowed us to make an assessment of the various services and projects that the province has, namely in the field of basic sanitation, education, health, transport, public lighting, security and mobility”, he stressed.
About a month and a half ahead of the destinations of the province of Luanda, Manuel Homem said that the need to increase the number of public schools in Luanda, the improvement of secondary and tertiary roads, as well as other important projects for road traffic.
Here, as an example, he pointed to Avenida “Fidel Castro”, Estrada Nacional no 100, on the Benfica-Barra do Cuanza section, the second ring road in Luanda, the accesses to the New Luanda Airport and the main road to Zango. “Many of these projects had been suspended for various reasons, and the Executive is concerned with identifying solutions, both financial and administrative, aimed at improving the capacity to provide public service in the province of Luanda”, he clarified.
A Thousand Schools To Cover The Deficit
Regarding the number of schools, Governor Manuel Homem said that the province of Luanda needs, to make up for the deficit, at least up to 1,000 public school equipment. He said that Luanda currently has more than 3,500 schools, between public and private, with the public, at different levels, no more than 800.
“It is, by far, insufficient, considering our population density, estimated at close to ten million inhabitants”, declared the governor, for whom, because of this, they will have been, this year, out of the education system, in the capital, between one million and 500 and one million and 900 students. “It is recognized that Luanda has challenges in relation to the construction and placement of more classrooms in the different municipalities of the province”, he emphasized.
Portfolio Distribution
The governor of Luanda said that some schools need improvements from the point of view of their infrastructure, which, he guaranteed, is already being done, gradually. “The challenges in schools in Luanda are not just the placement of desks. Some need to improve their infrastructure”, he clarified.
Manuel Homem stressed that, within the scope of this process of improving schools, the Ministry of Education has been carrying out, for some time now, the plan for distributing desks to some schools. He referred that as part of this initiative, some schools in Luanda, with emphasis on those in the municipality of Viana, are being equipped with new desks.
“It is not a program that was created as an emergency, but rather it is part of a structured plan by the Ministry of Education, in articulation with the different provinces, which aims to guarantee greater comfort and convenience to students”, stressed the governor.
Solution For Garbage And Rain
Regarding the issue of garbage and rain, which for years have been presented as “Achilles’ heel” in Luanda province, Governor Manuel Homem said that actions are already underway to counter these problems.
As for rains, he assured that he had already started a program to clean the drainage ditches, in order to allow better drainage of water during the rains. “Per day, we remove about 25 to 50 garbage trucks. It is a lot of garbage that citizens purposely put in the ditches. This makes the process of maintaining these infrastructures difficult”, warned the governor of Luanda, appealing, therefore, to citizens to opt for a change of attitude.
Regarding the cleaning of the province of Luanda, the governor assured that a program designed for this purpose is in action, which is being carried out in partnership with the municipalities. “Very recently, the provincial government made more than 49 vehicles available to Elisal for the collection and sanitation of Luanda”, he said.
Manuel Homem said that this action is part of a program that has been running for over a year, and will not stop here. “We believe that, within this plan, we will make another delivery, scheduled for the first quarter of next year, of equipment ranging from containers, garbage collection trucks and other means, in order to allow the city to have a better collection system. and waste treatment”, he concluded.
