Africa-Press – Angola. The project to construct the distribution network and household connections in the peri-urban areas of the city of Lubango, southern province of Huíla, is being implemented at an accelerated pace in seven neighborhoods of the city.
The work includes 5,303 household connections in the neighborhoods of Casa Verde, Senhora do Monte, Cte. Cowboy 1, Caxote, Sofrio, Bula Matady and Arimba, directly benefiting more than 30,000 citizens with regular access to drinking water.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Energy and Water, that on Tuesday (17), the project also foresees the implementation of a distribution network with an extension of more than 92 km, which will provide greater coverage and reliability to the supply system.
The note also highlights that, another ongoing project, since Sept 2025, is the construction of new water reservoirs and rehabilitation of the existing ones in the Capelinha, Bica da Humpata, and Mapunda neighborhoods, increasing storage capacity, availability, and supply.
These are considered priority projects and are in line with the Executive’s strategy for the water sector, whose priority is to sustainably increase the population’s access rate to drinking water.
As part of the implementation of the Executive’s public policies to strengthen universal access to drinking water, the Ministry of Energy and Water is carrying out a project to construct the distribution network and household connections in the peri-urban areas of the capital city of Lubango.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Water, the focus is to promote better public health conditions, economic development, and social inclusion, in line with national development goals and improving the standard of living for Angolans.
The contract for this project was signed on July 4, 2025, by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, and is expected to last 18 months.
