Africa-Press – Angola. The Luena photovoltaic plant, in the province of Moxico, begins the clean energy production process in March 2024, the expected date for completion of the project with capacity to generate 26,906 Megawatts .

Under construction in the Samalesso neighborhood, east of Luena, by the American companies Sun África and MCA Angola and Portugal, in an area of ​​52 hectares, the energy project is currently 95 percent physically completed.

This solar park is part of a program to build seven photovoltaic solar plants in the provinces of Benguela, Moxico, Lunda Sul, Lunda Norte, Bié, Huambo and Namibe.

According to the project’s construction director, Anderson Tiago, who spoke during a guided tour carried out by a delegation from the Northwest Zambian province, as part of an exchange forum, reiterated that the park is made up of 43 thousand 680 panel units , distributed in five blocks and 560 lines.

Accompanied by the governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, the minister of the Northwest province of Zambia, Robert Lihefu, praised the implementation of the project, stating that the Zambian government aims to follow the same example.

“Similar projects are very important for the country’s development and protection of the human species”, he highlighted.

Currently the municipality of Moxico (headquarters) produces a total of 25 Megawatts (MW), with demand standing at 22 MW.
