LuíSa DamiãO Highlights the Vision of the First President of the Republic

Africa-Press – Angola. MPLA vice-president, Luísa Damião, highlighted, yesterday, in Luanda, António Agostinho Neto’s vision on the role of women in building a prosperous Nation.

Speaking at the lecture on the Cultural and Political Dimension of the Founder of the Nation, the number two of the “comrades” party said that Agostinho Neto believed that the liberation of the country would not be complete without the full emancipation of Angolan women. “With their revolutionary spirit, Angolan women embraced the cause of freedom and became protagonists in the trenches of the fight for National Independence,” she highlighted.

This vision, said Luísa Damião, inspired women such as Deolinda Rodrigues, Irene Cohen, Engrácia dos Santos, Teresa Afonso, Lucrécia Paim, among others, to embrace the cause of the revolution for a free and independent Angola.

The vice-president of the MPLA, who was speaking to an audience that included the widow of the Founder of the Nation, Maria Eugénia Neto, recalled that the first President of the Republic taught the Angolan people that Independence does not mean “only” the liberation of the country from the colonial yoke, but also the ongoing commitment to work for a better future, free from inequality and prejudice.

“Dr. Agostinho Neto was, without a doubt, a visionary leader, a tireless patriot, whose greatest dedication in his life was to free our country from colonial oppression and build a just and sovereign Angola”, highlighted Luísa Damião, for whom the example and sacrifice of the National Hero must continue to guide the population in the construction of a more just and prosperous society for all.

For the MPLA vice-president, Agostinho Neto’s legacy is a call to the younger generations about the need to continue to take the lead in the different national processes, with emphasis on the fight for a united Angola, of social progress and increasingly inclusive. Luísa Damião defended, on the other hand, the need for everyone to work together, tirelessly, to build the desired Nation.

In turn, the secretary of the Political Bureau of the MPLA Central Committee for State Reform, Public Administration and Local Authorities, Mário Pinto de Andrade, praised the figure of Agostinho Neto, considering him a fighter and winner of great causes linked to the liberation of Angola and the African continent.

The politician, who was one of the speakers on the day, called on participants in the lecture on Neto, held in the Auditorium of the Futungo II Tourist Complex, to materialize António Agostinho’s ideas regarding the country’s development, especially his famous phrase: “The most important thing is to solve the people’s problems”.
