Africa-Press – Angola. Petro de Luanda’s point guard, Gerson Lukeny, has joined the French second division AIX Savoie, after representing the Angolan outlet for nine years under a contract whose terms have not yet been revealed.
The player has already been presented to his new club, which finished 14th last season with 48 points.
The 28-year-old’s departure was announced Wednesday on the Facebook page of the three-time Angolan champions, with only the following laconic message: “Thank you for everything we’ve achieved together”.
Lukeny, 1.93 meter tall, 90 kg, is a product of Petro de Luanda’s youth system, having been launched into the first team in 2015.
The African Basketball League (BAL) champion, in which the player scored an average 13.6 points and 4.7 assists last season, was his first international experience.
However, in 2018, he was close to moving to Spanish basketball, but opted to extend his contract with Petro de Luanda.
Gerson Lukeny won the African Nations Champion in 2015 and BAL Champion (2024) and the National Championship (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
He was named league MVP in the 2019 and 2022 editions.
The new asset of AIX Savoie de France also won the Angolan Cup (2022 and 2023), as well as the Super Cup (202, 2022 and 2024).
