Lunda Sul Hosts Angola Amputee Cups

Africa-Press – Angola. The eastern Lunda-Sul Province will host the Angola Cup for Amputees in football, as well as the wheelchair basketball categories, from October 11 to 12 of this year, the director of the Provincial Office of Youth and Sports, Nelson Muiuca, announced Tuesday.

Regarding the events, he said that the conditions implemented by the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA) have already been created.

Nelson Muiuca explained that the government is working to improve the two grounds that will host the games, as well as the technical and logistical issues.

He said that the institution’s Technical Committee recently visited the province to analyze the conditions and recommended improvements in some cases.

The official stated that the two events are part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be marked on November 11th.

In turn, the Secretary General of the CPA, António da Luz, expressed confidence in the good organization of the province, considering the conditions suitable for hosting the competitions.

He revealed that the governor of Lunda-Sul, Daniel Neto, is committed to ensuring the event runs smoothly, adding that the teams will begin travelling to Lunda-Sul on October 9th.

António da Luz explained that the Angola Cup is normally contested between two finalist teams, but to increase the competitiveness of the athletes, the number of finalists was increased to three.

“After the National Championships for these sports, practically no more matches were held, so more than two teams were involved to form a quadrangular group of competitors in the Angola Cup”.

The official added that the winning teams automatically advance to the final the following day. The losing teams will compete for 3rd and 4th place.
