Africa-Press – Angola. The deforestation of the section, which covers the Biúla/Cazage/Muconda/Luau corridor, began in December last year, after the work was consigned

The feeling of satisfaction appears on the faces of Guerra Mutondo and Manuel Adelis, with the earthmoving of Estrada Nacional 240, which connects the provinces of Lunda-Sul and Moxico.

Bathed in sweat, due to the effort of pushing the motorbike that ran out of fuel, during the return from the field, both pause to catch their breath, before continuing the march.

Deforestation of the 159-kilometer section began last December, shortly after the work was consigned, which covers the Biúla/Cazage/Muconda/Luau corridor.

The section will allow road connection with Estrada Nacional 180, to the cities of Saurimo (Lunda-Sul) and Dundo (Lunda-Norte), as well as the municipality of Luena (Moxico), which from here will be able to connect with the province of Cuando Cubango.

Gabriel dos Santos, a friend of Guerra Mutondo and Manuel Adelis, with his motorbike, is already dreaming of a paved road, along the Biúla/Cazage/Muconda/Luau corridor, without passing through Saurimo.

Advances in urbanization

Accommodated in a plastic chair, in the front courtyard of the house, the elderly Vieira Soares, 79 years old, with a robust physique, protected by a short-sleeved shirt and semi-tight pants, feet wearing flip-flops, is dozing, with his head reclined beside him. chest, ignoring the movement on the paved street.

The weight of age has reduced the ability to walk long distances and wield a hoe to cultivate the land, as was done in the past. The wife and two daughters took on this responsibility, cultivating cassava, sweet potatoes, beans, ginguba, corn and other crops for consumption and sale of the surplus.

The retirement pension and allowance, which for the work done in community services and as a former combatant, help cover part of the family’s expenses.

The oldest goes back in time to describe the scrubland in the area, currently populated by dozens of families from various parts of the Eastern region. It highlights advances in urbanization, with notable impacts on the provision of services in the sectors of Education, Health, Electricity and the multiplication of water distribution capacity.

“Now no one cultivates here”, emphasized the elderly man, pointing to an area where there is guaranteed to be a water well, which served the residents.

Vieira Soares recognizes the Government’s efforts to provide basic social services for the population, stating that it is a fight on several fronts to guarantee a better life for all Angolans.

Cost of living

Speaking slowly, in an audible tone, the oldest laments the weak purchasing power, given the “violent market” prices. As an example, he points to Akz 2000 for a liter of oil, and for three lambulas (sardines) you pay half of this value.

David Cajama, 18, and Manuel Caxala, 19, are students. They were born and live in the Mbango neighborhood, a suburban part of the village of Muconda. The two friends describe that farming and school mark their daily routine. They characterize the environment in the area as calm, occasionally alternated by thefts/robberies in canteens and farms carried out by other young people, as a rule without occupation. They consider their participation in hunting or fishing, when applicable, to be “an odd job”, paid for with “a little fish or piece of meat” by the promoter of the activity and the means used.

Low supply of vegetables

Living in Vila Vila for a week, to reinforce the team that is rehabilitating a primary school, in fact the first, built more than 25 years ago, Almerindo Paulo, assigned to the construction company UPATCHILA, notices a “weak supply of vegetables” in the village market.

Truck immobilized on the road

In the vicinity of the Tamba River, less than 30 kilometers from the city of Saurimo, misfortune struck a truck loaded with rods, heading from Luanda, bound for Lumbumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, which, due to a technical malfunction, rolled over, becoming immobilized, with part of the trailer occupying the entire roadway.

Despite the isolation, the driver noted that the worst “didn’t happen because he chose to scissor” at the height of his distress. At that time, the available space on the shoulder was restricted to light vehicles.

PIIM works

Within the framework of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), the municipality of Muconda benefited from a budget of 3.4 billion kwanzas for 18 projects, of which 17 are completed.

Of the completed projects, schools, health units, residences for health technicians and teachers, public office buildings, water collection systems and expansion of the electrical network stand out.

Administrator defends combining efforts

The municipal administrator of Muconda (Lunda-Sul), Isaías Sacajima, defended the combination of efforts to develop the locality and improve the population’s quality of life. When speaking at a meeting with residents, as part of the proximity governance program, the person in charge urged the population to contribute ideas for the development of the municipality.

“I urge the population to remain calm and contribute positively with ideas aimed at the development of our municipality. In addition to mining resources, we have arable land and water that can stimulate the interest of national and international investors”, he highlighted.

During the meeting, residents requested improvements in the supply of electricity and drinking water, access roads, as well as more support for peasants, with a view to boosting agriculture.
