Africa-Press – Angola. The match between Petro de Luanda (Angola) and Ferroviário da Beira (Mozambique) opens Saturday the second round of the African Basketball League (BAL).

With different results in their debut, Petro beat Uganda’s City Oilers, by 89-71, while the Mozambicans lost to the hosts Al Alhy, by 74-92.

The “rivalry” in Angolan and Mozambican basketball transcends the scope of the club and also encompasses the national teams.

For the present challenge, to be held at 2 pm, at the Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex (Cairo), the Angolan representative appears as the favorite as runner-up and main contender for the top places.

The duel will also be for the observation of the Sudanese pole Ater Majok, reinforcement of the Angolan emblem that is expected to be of weight.

Majok, 2.11 m tall, defending champion for Monastir, scored just 6 points, gained 8 rebounds and had two assists in his first official game with the “tricolor” jersey.

Still for the same day of this preliminary phase, which is disputed in a round-robin system, City Oilers and Al Alhy will play at 19:30 for this Nile Conference.

Due to the calendar, the Cape Town Tigers and SLAC are off.

For the final phase, which will take place from the 21st to the 28th of May, in Rwanda, only the top four qualify.

Monastir from Tunisia, defending champions, will not be part of the final phase, having occupied the fifth position in the Sahara conference, held in Senegal, last March.
