Africa-Press – Angola. The role of cinema in changing society’s consciousness is the main focus of the third edition of the International Short Film Festival “Fesc-Kianda”, which takes place from the 17th to the 24th of this month, at the Centro Cultural Brasil-Angola, in Luanda.
For seven days, 36 films will be screened, all by directors from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), whose work has had an impact in recent years. For this edition, the production selected the short films from Angola: “Gamophobia”, “In the name of Tradition”, “Message In Botlle”, “Apocalyptic Deputy”, “It’s us there”, “Controversy”, “A piece of Love”, “Coronavirus”, “April 1”, “The Haker”, “The Legacy”, “Equal Rights”, “Rupture”, “Experiences”, “Depressive Acts” and “Secret Agent”.
From Brazil, the films “O Menino da Moeda”, “Um conto Indígena”, “Filme de Favela”, “Viro Artista ou Morro Tentando”, “Imprudence”, “Traces”, “Neguinho”, “Eighteen” and ”
Cape Verde brings this year the short films “Consequences of Drugs” and “Hélio”, while Equatorial Guinea shows the films “Mercy” and “A Luta”. São Tomé and Príncipe participates with “Stop Covid” and “Illegal Games”. In turn, Mozambique is showing “Cabo Disconnected”.
The festival’s producer, José Kiteculo, said that for the selection of films, the quality of the short films was carefully observed, with emphasis on the plot, the scenic representation of the actors, the sound quality and the year of production. “Angola was the country chosen due to the fact that audiovisual production is increasing a lot, with the capital, Luanda, being the one with the highest production”, he explained.
The director of “Fesc-Kianda”, Vánio Luís, considered the last edition to be productive and hopes to be able to establish several partnerships this year. “The winners of this edition will receive a statuette and a certificate of participation”, he explained.
The festival aims to celebrate the 446th anniversary of the foundation of the city of Luanda and will pay tribute to the director Nguxi dos Santos, founding partner of Dreadlock Produções, who was a war reporter at the service of TPA and has already exhibited, as a photographer, works such as ” Marcas da Guerra”, in Luanda, in 2002, and in Venezuela, in 2005.
