The Luanda District Court continues tomorrow, at the Talatona Convention Center, with the hearings of new witnesses listed in the NR case. 230/22, in which Major Pedro Lussaty is the main defendant, out of a total of 49 defendants, accused of 13 crimes, namely embezzlement, continuous criminal association, undue receipt of advantages, abuse of power and economic participation in business.

The trial is in the interrogation phase, for more than 15 days, to 200 witnesses, previously requested by the Public Ministry, with the aim of confronting the information collected during the procedural investigation period, within the time of material construction of the evidence.

Since the beginning of the hearings, the Public Ministry has already heard the former Secretary General for Personnel and Staff of the Security House of the President of the Republic, the commanders of the Special Demining Brigades and other witnesses. Thus, the hearing process ends, in principle, when all the witnesses enrolled in the case are heard, and from that point on, the court may consider the collection of evidence, based on the confrontation, sufficient to proceed with the final phase. of the trial.

In one of the sessions, held last week, the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office explained that the 200 witnesses will have to testify in court to give sustainability to certain facts that occurred, eventually in the commission of the crimes that the 49 defendants in the Lussaty case are accused of.

The main defendant in this fraudulent scheme involves soldiers from the Security House of the President of the Republic and began last June. Major Pedro Lussaty is seen as the head of the group, which in possession had millions of dollars, euros and kwanzas stored in suitcases and crates, and also owned more than a dozen vehicles.

The Luanda District Court heard the former Secretary General for Personnel and Staff of the Security House of the President of the Republic, Lieutenant General Angelino Domingos Vieira, at the request of the Public Ministry, to cross-check information on the entry and exit of effective, and try to connect, in this way, any loose ends present in the case at trial.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office wanted to know, in detail, the ways of controlling the staff in the units of the Security House in order to compare the information with the previous testimonies collected during the procedural investigation phase, for which Angelino Domingos Vieira replied, in a tone that was not adequate to the questioning, underlining that “the control was carried out physically, on a standstill, and through other means of a military nature.
