Africa-Press – Angola. The presiding judge of the Soyo District Court, Zaire province, Manuel Vunge da Silva, defended, this Tuesday, the need for families to share information that contributes to the prevention of sexual crimes.

Speaking to the press, the judge said, for example, that adults should explain to younger people that they should never let their private parts be touched or allow them to be exposed to content or practices of a sexual nature, reporting those who do so.

He considered the attacks and sexual abuse in the municipality of Soyo to be worrying, and therefore called for the involvement of the whole of society to combat this evil.

He explained that sexual crimes disrupt families, as the perpetrators and victims are the members of this nucleus of society.

He reported that, from January to April this year, that court registered 49 cases of sexual abuse and assault, five of which had minors as victims.

In 2023, according to the source, there were 21 cases recorded, 18 of sexual abuse and three of sexual assault, with adults as the perpetrators and the victims being minors.

In total, he said, the local court notified 324 criminal cases from January to March this year, 68 of which were judged and another 256 are continuing their legal proceedings in that court.

Among the criminal cases, according to the magistrate, there are 51 family cases for the regulation of the employer authority, five of which have been resolved, four involving minors in conflict with the law, having been resolved in their entirety.

The Soyo District Court, whose area of jurisdiction extends to the municipalities of Nzeto and Nóqui, has only four judges, two of which are guarantee judges, one of whom also performs the function of judge of law.

The presiding judge said that four more new judicial magistrates are needed to respond to the procedural demand, for whom the lack of staff, among other difficulties, is the basis of the reduced number of criminal cases already judged in the period from January to March of the year in course.

The magistrate was speaking on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the local court’s entry into operation, which is marked under the motto “Society’s contribution to mitigating crime”.

During the commemorative day, which opened this Monday, this court promoted a lecture on the theme “Sexual crimes and self-determination”, aimed at students at the local Nimi ya Lukeni Higher University Institute (INSPUNYL).
