Malanje court releases 19 prisoners under the amnesty law

Africa-Press – Angola. Nineteen inmates from penitentiary establishments in the Comarca of Malanje and Damba were released yesterday, Friday, by the Provincial Court of Malanje, in light of the Amnesty Law.

The citizens concerned join the 49 members of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the National Police who, in January, received their respective releases from the Malanje Military Court, also within the scope of the aforementioned law.

The head of the Penitentiary Assistance and Rehabilitation department of the Provincial Directorate of Penitentiary Services of Malanje, Conceição Famoroso, called on those pardoned to present themselves to society as rehabilitated men and able to contribute to its progress.

In turn, the amnesty recipients promised to refrain from criminal practices and stated that they will take advantage of the opportunity to become more engaged in the country’s development.

The act of delivering the warrants for the release of the 19 citizens was witnessed by representatives of the Provincial Court of Malanje, Provincial Services of the Ombudsman of Justice of Malanje, members of the Provincial Committee of Human Rights and the Ministry of the Interior.

Approved by the National Assembly on December 15, 2022, the Amnesty Law forgives all common crimes committed by national or foreign citizens between November 12, 2015 and November 11, 2022, whose prison sentences range up to eight years, except for crimes committed with violence and resulting in death.
