The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas said, Friday (22), that the construction of the “Lifua A” platform, by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company and associates in Block 0, will further boost the national oil industry, with equipment prospecting, oil production and contribute to increasing the country’s income levels.
Diamantino de Azevedo, who was speaking at the presentation of the “Lifua A” project to the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in the Malongo oil field, highlighted that the platform, built by Angolan technicians, represents a historic achievement for the national oil industry and demonstrates the participation of the oil and gas industry in promoting local content, through recruitment, training and transfer of transversal skills to Angolan technicians and companies, with the aim of supporting the diversification of the Angolan economy.
Without indicating the quantities of black gold to be produced when it goes into operation offshore (sea), the minister informed that the project will be set up in Block 0, where the Angolan state is contractually positioned as the largest shareholder.
According to the official, here the State is the biggest investor and has a considerable degree of maturity in terms of exploration and production, in addition to a potential of prospective resources and of some, already identified, that, when developed, will contribute even more to the increase of this bloc and, consequently, of the country, mitigating, in part, the decline in current production.
Diamantino de Azevedo recalled that the National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels recently submitted a contract for the approval of the Executive for the extension and concession of Block 0, for an additional period of 20 years, with effect from 2030.
He stressed that the contract contains tax incentives and benefits, the results of which will translate into an increase in production from 605 million barrels of oil to 1.4 billion, with additional income in taxes for the State of more than 6.9 thousand. million US dollars.
He added that the extension of the concession contract will also allow for investment in natural gas transport infrastructure, to guarantee the supply of around 100 million cubic feet of gas, with 50 million cubic feet dedicated to the Thermal Power Plant. do Malembo and the remaining 50 million cubic feet for future projects to use natural gas, such as the construction of a fertilizer plant.
Suzana Costa, a Cabgoc employee for over 10 years and manager of the “Lifua A” project, highlighted that the platform’s structures were all built in Cabinda, over a period of 11 months and that the building provided 300 new jobs.
The next phase of the project, according to Suzana Costa, will be to transport the modules to the sea through the Malongo dock, followed by installation (platform), in a process that could take around 30 days.
“The Lifua A platform is a big project. It has the capacity for 10 wells, 6 producers and 4 injectors”, underlined Suzana da Costa, announcing that the first production could take place before the end of this year.
Cabgoc’s managing director, Billy Lacobie, said that the platform is the first field developed with the application of the standardized manufacturing model, whose objective is to develop new fields at a lower cost, faster and more economically, using the excess capacity available in the company’s existing infrastructure.
This project provides Cabgoc and its partners with the opportunity to optimize the production of Block 0, promote the local economy and have a direct impact on the capacity development of the Cabinda community, through the local manufacture of the Lifua A platform”, he said.
