Africa-Press – Angola. Eight employees linked to the municipal administration of Matala, Huíla province, were detained in an action by the General Inspection of State Administration (IGAE) and the National Police, for alleged acts of corruption and undue receipt of advantages.
Of the detained employees, six work as inspectors, as well as a head of the budget, finance and public procurement section and a typist, who were caught as part of an operation that took place within the scope of the Inspection and Monitoring Plan for Public Institutions in the Festive Court Period.
According to a note, IGAE caught on the weekend, on the bridge over the Cunene River, on the National Road (EN-180), technicians who were carrying out, irregularly, collecting tolls for the crossing to motorists and motorcyclists who circulated on the aforementioned section, at a price of 300 kwanzas.
An accumulation of 23 thousand 950 kwanzas was found in their possession, as a result of illegal charges for crossing the respective bridge.
The note also indicates that, following the operations, IGAE also found, in possession of the typist, Salomé Chico, 518 thousand 950 kwanzas resulting from charges made without the issuance of invoices and/or documents authorized by the Ministry of Finance, as they are monetary values that should be deposited in the Single Treasury Account (CUT), and the accused has kept them captive for more than 15 days.
The officials mentioned here also orchestrated illegal charges, that is, fraudulently stealing monetary amounts from revenue collections.
The network issued 15,000 invoices during the month of December, without the existence of a protocol, known as stub or carbon paper, as well as 151 record books were seized for the necessary expert examination, and they were suspected of evading the provision of tax accounts. with the State Financial Management System (SIGFE).
IGAE warns that the actions carried out by technicians from the local State administration, in Matala, constitute acts of public improbity, in disobedience to Law No. 3/10 of 29 March, and a crime of corruption provided for in the Angolan criminal law, 38/2020 of 11 November, on the Angolan penal code.
When reacting on the matter, the municipal administrator of Matala, Miguel António Paiva Vicente, considered that the act carried out by the employees he manages is illegal and reprehensible at all levels.
According to him, the country needs employees who help contribute to the development and acceleration of the national economy and not those who worked to harm the State for their own benefits.
With a territorial area of nine thousand 065 square kilometers, the municipality of Matala has an estimated population of 345 thousand 398 inhabitants and is located 180 kilometers east of Lubango.
