Africa-Press – Angola. The Matala Hydroelectric Plant, in the province of Huíla, was inaugurated this Friday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
Accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Head of State, João Lourenço, cut the ribbon, which marks the start of energy infrastructure operations.
The Matala Dam increased production capacity from 27.2 to 40.8 megawatts, with the entry into operation of the third turbine, which will guarantee the supply of quality electricity to benefit several communities in the provinces of Huíla and Namibe.
To increase the current electrical power of this dam, the Government invested more than 106 million euros, for the rehabilitation works of the equipment of the Hydroelectric Power Station, the Substation and the Vila da Matala Electric Grid, which will reduce the operating cost of the thermal power plants, by reducing fossil fuel consumption.
