Africa-Press – Angola. Obra Social da Maxinde won the provincial junior men’s handball championship Saturday, by beating Desportivo da Vila Matilde by 29-14 in a game played at Estádio Valódia, in this city.

The championship began last March, as part of the celebrations of the national handball day, which is celebrated yesterday, with Desportivo da Vila Matilde and Obra Social da Maxinde B placing second and third.

The Maxinde Social Work coach, Patrick Mufuma said that the victory was deserved, as the athletes did everything to win the games, complying with the tactics and techniques oriented.

In turn, the coach of Desportivo da Vila Matilde, Peterson André, attributes the fatigue of the players and the climate as being at the base of the defeat, but he was encouraged;

In female youth, the team from Obra Social da Malanje also beat Desportivo da Vila Matilde by an expressive 37-16.

On the occasion, the vice-president of the Provincial Handball Association of Malanje, António Bernardo Samuel praised the competitive level and participation of the teams, despite the results and the reduced number of clubs (8), stressing that the association will continue to support the clubs with means, aiming at the massification of the modality.

The 8 teams were made up of 28 former handball players of both sexes.

The national handball day was established on May 20, 1974, by a group of athletes who decided to spread the sport in Angola, giving rise to the creation of the Federation on October 17 of the same year.
