Africa-Press – Angola. The destiny and essence of Luanda’s Carnival at this stage of the pandemic begins to be defined next Wednesday, during a provincial meeting, which takes place at 10:00 am, in the African League, with the participation of leaders of carnival groups and specialists in Entrudo.
The director of the Luanda Culture, Youth and Sports office, Manuel Gonçalves, said that several activities had already been programmed to make up for the lack of a competitive parade in this edition, to be held within the celebrations of the centenary of the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.
Manuel Gonçalves also informed that the program of activities has the support of the Luanda Provincial Carnival Association (Aprocal) and includes debates related to improving the “people’s party”, such as the economic issue and the promotion and dynamization of cultural tourism in the Shrovetide
The restructuring of the essence of Carnival, the revitalization of music and the return of live percussion, as elements that add originality to the party, will also be discussed, especially during the provincial meeting.
Therefore, he added, he hopes that there will be valuable contributions to improve the performance of the Luanda Carnival, especially the one made in the last ten years, in which music was promoted in “playback” format and now there is a need to live percussion.
On the day after the meeting, until the 28th of this month, the Feira do Entrudo will be held, he said, at Praça da Independência, in Luanda, where artefacts from over 40 carnival groups from the capital of parents. The idea, he added, is to offer a very interactive program of activities with the public.
Among the activities scheduled, on the 25th of this month, a tribute to different figures and personalities linked to Luanda’s Carnival should be highlighted. The act will take place at 17:00, at Palácio de Ferro, downtown, and composers, artists, percussionists, seamstresses and behind-the-scenes figures of the “people’s party” will be distinguished there. “Batucada do Carnaval” is scheduled to take place at 10:00 am, at the Independente do Golfe course, at Kilamba Kiaxi, in Luanda.
This year’s central event, he explained, will be celebrated with the holding, on March 1, of the “live” “Festa do Povo”, scheduled for 15:00, at the TPA Production Center, located in Camama, with the exhibition of 13 groups of class A (Adults) of 2020, due to the fact that the competitive parade has not been held for two years, due to Covid-19.
In this edition, the organization will also include the historic carnival group União Kabocomeu do Sambizanga, from class B (Adults), which ends this year’s “live”. rehearsing to ensure a decent show.
