Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Institutional Communication and Press office of the Delegation of the Interior in Huambo, Martinho Kavita Satito, praised today, Sunday, the attitude of the population during New Year’s Eve, which took place in a quiet and peaceful manner.
Speaking to the press, the chief superintendent of the National Police, said that the transition took place in a smooth, calm and peaceful manner, without any occurrences that worry the forces of public order, due to the behavior shown by citizens.
He referred that the population refrained from practices capable of compromising the climate of peace and public security.
According to the official, despite the heavy rain, several citizens took to the streets of the city of Huambo and surroundings to celebrate the return of the New Year festivities.
“So far, nothing unusual has been registered, as citizens have intelligently interpreted the true meaning of the occasion, which must be lived responsibly”, he emphasized.
During the transition of the year, several operations were carried out by the executive bodies of the Ministry of the Interior, which consisted of inspections of the year-end festivities, as well as in streets and neighborhoods, with the aim of detecting possible acts of incivility and repressing the actions that violate public order and tranquility.
For this purpose, the Department of Traffic and Road Safety of the National Police set up several posts, where it asked dozens of motorists and motorcyclists about the need to comply with the rules of the Highway Code, within the framework of actions to prevent and combat road accidents.
During the operation, which started on the 29th and lasted 15 days, road users were also subjected to alcohol tests to determine the level of ethanol in their blood.
It was mentioned that the local office for Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports had legalized 73 requests for end-of-year festivities, 41 in the municipality of Huambo, 12 in Caála, eight in Bailundo, while Cachiungo, Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje, Ecunha, Longonjo and Ucuma have two each.
With a territorial extension of 35 thousand and 771 square kilometers, more than two million 600 thousand inhabitants live in the province of Huambo, spread over 11 municipalities: Bailundo and Caála, Cachiungo, Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje, Ecunha, Huambo, Londuimbali, Longonjo, Mungo and Ucuma.
