Minister announces recovery works at Tundavala Stadium

Africa-Press – Angola. Work on recovering the electronic board and replacing the current lockers with more modern ones at Estádio Tundavala, in Lubango, Huíla province, will start in the next few days, announced, Monday, in this city, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa.

The portfolio holder made this statement to the press, as part of her two-day working visit to Huíla, to assess the existing sports and social infrastructures in the province under the supervision of the ministry she heads.

The minister informed that the works program includes the placement of a synthetic mat to eliminate obstacles resulting from sports practice, according to the guidelines of the African Football Confederation (CAF), whose works will be carried out by a national company already selected.

Without advancing investment in the recovery of equipment and the start date of the works, he stated that they should be concluded before the 20th of the current month, since on the 26th the approval or not of the stadium will be announced for carrying out the international games by CAF.

“To carry out the upcoming international games, it is necessary to recover the aforementioned equipment that Tundavala Stadium needs to see resolved”, he said.

When reacting to the matter, the governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, said that although the large sports infrastructures depend on the ministry, the local government is finding policies for its recovery, in order to contribute to the development of the “queen sport” , in the country and be able to host games at all levels.

Asked about the current state of the Multipurpose Pavilion of Nossa Senhora do Monte, he stressed that the local government and the ministry responsible for it are developing joint work so that it will, in a short time, gain a new image.

With regard to youth infrastructure in Lubango and Humpata, he stressed that it was a project to be re-established this year, within the scope of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).

For this Tuesday, the minister will visit the Multipurpose Pavilion of Nossa Senhora do Monte, the Youth House of Palanca (Humpata) and the Youth Community Center of Lubango, as well as a meeting with the province’s sports associations.

This is the first visit that the minister makes to the province of Huíla.
