Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing (MINOPUH), Carlos Alberto dos Santos, on Tuesday in Icolo e Bengo Province, said that the National Road (EN) 110, in the route Catete/Muxima, is crucial for facilitating access for those coming from the south of the country to Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN).
The Minister was speaking to the press at the end of a visit to the provincial directors of the technical and infrastructure sector, participants in the 1st MINOPUH Consultative Council, regarding the A3 road, which connects the 230 to Zango 8000 and AIAAN, and the EN110, Catete/Cabala/Muxima.
At the time, the minister said that the improvement of this road will allow greater convenience and time savings for citizens wishing to reach AIAAN or the Dom Emílio de Carvalho Hospital in Zango 8000, coming from the provinces of Cuanza Sul, Benguela, and Huambo, without having to pass through the Kwanza River bar and Luanda.
According to the government official, the rehabilitation work on the Catete/Cabala section (24 km), the most degraded, is progressing well and is 50 percent complete. This road is benefiting from new asphalt and improvements of the drainage system, and is estimated to be completed by February 2026.
This first phase will include parts and the replacement of 204 light bulbs along the Cabala bridge to offer greater safety to drivers and pedestrians.
The works for the second phase, concerning the Cabala/Muxima section, with 69 kilometers, will begin in March 2026, and will consist of maintenance and conservation, followed by its expansion.
He added that the Muxima/Mumbondo/Demba Chio road to Caxarandanda, with 145 kilometers, will be improved, leading to the Longa region, bordering the municipality of Porto Amboim, in the Cuanza Sul province, where a new bridge with an approximately 200 linear meters will be built.
The minister reiterated that in early 2026, the rehabilitation and widening works on the Kifangondo/Catete road will begin, within the 2023/2027 Municipal Master Plan (PDM), contributing to the development of the national economy.
In turn, the provincial governor of Icolo e Bengo, Auzílio Jacob, said that this road (Catete/Cabala/Muxima) is strategic because it will create a South/North ring road, eliminating the need to pass through Luanda.
“It is a road that will promote tourism to the beaches of Cabo Ledo and Quiçama National Park, as well as respond to the National Development Plan (PND) regarding the transport of agricultural products to the city, considering the large quantities of citrus production in that area”, he said.
During this visit, the minister was accompanied by provincial officials from the technical and infrastructure sectors, participants in the Consultative Council, to show at the place the ongoing and completed works, as well as their importance in urban mobility.
