Minister highlights importance of United Nations Conference on Water

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, Wednesday, in New York (USA), highlighted the extreme importance of the United Nations Conference on Water, which takes place from the 22nd to the 24th of this month, in this city, for allowing sharing experiences on improving access to water for populations.

The Angolan official referred that the conference also serves to reflect on the challenges that still exist in the sector, with a view to achieving the targets of the 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Under the motto “Accelerating action towards a sustainable future”, the conference brings together Heads of State and Government and specialists from several countries, who will discuss the best solutions for a rational management of water resources and guarantee access to water by different communities. .

This Wednesday morning, João Baptista Borges witnessed the opening ceremony of the event, flanked by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Mission of Angola to the UN, João Gimolieca.

According to the work agenda, this afternoon, at the invitation of the World Bank for Africa, the minister will participate in the launching ceremony of the new IBNET, within the scope of the PDISA 2 and RECLIMA project, underway in the country.

This Thursday, the official will speak, representing the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

For this event, the Angolan delegation includes several officials from the Ministry of Energy and Water, assistants from the Vice-Presidency of the Republic and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission to the UN, in New York.
