Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology, and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, highlighted this Wednesday in Luanda the impact of telecommunications on the development of the Angolan oil industry.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 6th Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition, the minister reported that the sector he leads has an application, Tecnoecologia, which has collaborated with the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANPG) for over three years in the control and detection of oil spills in offshore operations.

He also stated that, in partnership with ANPG, they are in the second phase of developing a platform for mapping inland oil exploration basins.

“Therefore, the presence and impact of telecommunications is evident, as they have contributed significantly to the development of the Angolan oil industry,” he emphasized. The minister considered the role of new technologies in the development of the national oil sector to be fundamental.

He considered telecommunications and information technologies to be essential tools in all spheres of human activity, be they social, political, or economic.

He highlighted the presence of telecommunications and information technologies at the Oil and Gas Symposium and Fair, highlighting the participation of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPN), which is presenting satellite-based solutions that have already proven useful in the oil industry.

He also announced that the sector has created GEDAI, an office dedicated to developing customized applications that support various industries, including oil, agriculture, mining, and urban planning.

Partnerships

Mário de Oliveira also highlighted the partnerships established by GEDAI with the operator Africell, for whom the telecommunications and information technology sector is characterized by the convergence of legislation, which allows the sharing of passive infrastructure between operators.

He recalled that they also recently signed a partnership to build another submarine fiber optic cable connecting Cabinda, aiming to expand connectivity and optimize the existing infrastructure.

He noted that these partnerships are ongoing and essential for the development and expansion of telecommunications services throughout the country.

Startups

Mario Oliveira emphasized that the startup ecosystem is currently demonstrating great vigor, with many young people creating job opportunities for other young people. “This trajectory has been constant. The oil sector presents a significant opportunity for these young people to provide services, and we have already identified concrete examples of this collaboration,” said the minister.

He added that the spirit of meritocracy, creativity, and development is present among young people. “Therefore, the oil sector certainly cannot and should not remain oblivious to the innovation generated by our young entrepreneurs.”
