Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Francisco de Assis, promised Saturday, in this city, to reinforce with technical means the productive sector of the country’s prisons.
The government official was speaking at the end of his visit to the Cavaco penitentiary, guaranteeing the willingness of the department he directs to support in whatever way possible.
According to the minister, the Cavaco prison establishment launched, within the scope of the MININT/Agriculture partnership, a program to promote poultry farming, the results of which are visible, taking into account the initial number of 500 chicks that allowed reproduction for the current six thousand and 57 chicks. chickens.
Francisco de Assis was impressed with the project and assured that he will reinforce the poultry sector with the delivery of another incubator.
In the same vein, the minister also promised to provide means to increase the irrigation capacity of agricultural fields, to allow the production of corn and soybeans in record time.
On the other hand, he also referred that his sector will, in the next few days, start the process of recovering the agricultural fields belonging to some charitable institutions, with emphasis on the houses of Gaiato in Malanje, Huambo and Benguela, as well as support with training and technical means for young people admitted to leave with experience in arts and crafts.
Meanwhile, the director general of Prison Services, Chief Prison Commissioner Bernardo Pereira Gourgel, informed that three prisons in Bengo, Benguela and Wakukungo were chosen, within the said project, as they had all the technical conditions for production. Subsequently, these will promote other establishments in order to improve the diet of inmates.
According to Bernardo Gourgel, the visit of the minister of agriculture will encourage and reinforce activities carried out in the areas of poultry, agriculture and pig farming.
