Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Minister of National Defence, Former Combat and Veterans of the Fatherland, João Ernesto dos Santos, declared Tuesday, that Angola is in effective and irreversible peace, with the challenges of deepening democracy and economic and social development from the country.

At the opening of the XXII meeting of Defense ministers of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), the minister added that Angola was experiencing an environment of perfect reconciliation and reconstruction of its main infrastructures.

He stated that the country has created the necessary conditions to attract foreign investment that can contribute to the development of all sectors of society.

He pointed out investments in the energy sector as an example, such as the hydroelectric dams of Laúca, which represents a commitment to clean energy, and that of Caculo-Cabaça, due to be completed in 2026, which will be the largest in the country and the third in Africa, behind Nigeria and Egypt.

Military cooperation in the CPLP

The Minister of Defence, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland praised the progressive and mutually advantageous cooperation with the homologous ministries that contributes to cohesion in the performance and consolidation of the community project.

He referred that the foundation of the CPLP on July 17, 1996 and the dynamization of military cooperation resulted in an opportunity for the exchange of diverse experiences, through training and military training in the different military areas, which serve the armed forces with pride, determination and high sense of mission and statehood.

He reported the Angolan contribution in supporting the reform of the military sector in Guinea-Bissau (MISSANG) and in Mozambique, when it was hit by cyclone IDAI and in the pacification of the province of Cabo Delgado.

He asserted that defense issues aim to promote world peace and security and should serve as a standard for the present and the future.

He was flattered by being awarded the “CPLP Aparecido de Oliveira award”, awarded to the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) in recognition of his contribution to community projection, with emphasis on the promotion of the mobility agreement.

He added, among the contributions of the Angolan statesman, the creation of new general objectives of the CPLP of economic cooperation and the integration of the principles of representativeness and gender equality in the organization’s statutes.

The ambassadors of the member countries witnessed the opening ceremony of the meeting of Ministers of Defense of the Community.

Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor are members of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries – CPLP, created in July 1996.
