Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Minister of National Defense, Veterans, and Homeland Veterans, João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade,” on Sunday reaffirmed the Executive’s commitment to continue improving social assistance for veterans, war-disabled individuals, orphans, widows, and their ascendants under the sector’s supervision.
Speaking in Menongue, Cubango province, during the inauguration ceremony of the new provincial delegate for Veterans and Homeland Veterans in Cubango, Victória Nahobi, the Minister stated that the Government is committed to ensuring greater dignity for citizens who contributed to the achievement and preservation of national independence.
According to the minister, the process of re-registration and proof of life for beneficiaries is still ongoing, and he called for everyone’s cooperation in completing it, at a time when 64,000 pensioners are being monitored by the State Financial Management System. João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade” stated that the recently sworn-in provincial delegates received technical training on the functioning of the Ministry and social monitoring methodologies, with a view to standardizing services throughout the country.
In her speech, Vitória Nahobi, the new provincial delegate for Veterans and Former Combatants of the Nation in Cubango, highlighted as priorities the re-registration and monitoring of beneficiary data, the improvement of social and health support, and the encouragement of the creation of agricultural cooperatives to strengthen family livelihoods.
“Cubango is a province rich in fertile land. We intend to create institutional fields and support productive projects that can contribute to the livelihood of our beneficiaries and their families,” she emphasized.
Vitória Nahobi added that the province currently manages 2,355 pensioners, including veterans, war disabled individuals, orphans, widows, and their ascendants.
She said she views the appointment as a great challenge and a personal honor, promising to work with determination and team spirit for the benefit of veterans and their families. “It is a privilege to serve those who gave their lives for our country’s independence. We are aware of the difficulties, but confident that, with dedication, we will ensure that the rights of our beneficiaries are respected and valued,” she stated.
Governor Highlights Advantages of Current Provincial Delegation Structure
The governor of Cubango, José Martins, emphasized the importance of updating the Organic Statute of the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, which replaces the former provincial offices with delegations. He believes the new legal framework will allow for better coordination between central and local bodies in the sector.
“This measure represents a new phase of organization and efficiency in the provision of services to veterans and their dependents, ensuring faster resolution of their problems,” he stated.
The governor congratulated Vitória Nahobi’s appointment, highlighting her in-depth knowledge of the provincial situation and the experience gained over the years in the administrative field.
“She is a local figure, knowledgeable about local processes and challenges, which gives us confidence that she will continue her good work and create a more participatory and inclusive dynamic,” he emphasized. The governor reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to supporting the new delegation by providing the human and material resources necessary for the success of its activities.
