Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Education said Monday in Luanda that there are still schools with an insufficient number of desks and explained that the problem is a result of the slowdown in the distribution process in August, due to the general elections.
Luísa Grilo, who was speaking to journalists at the end of a ceremony to launch the Scholarship Program for students of the 1st cycle of Public and Public/Private Secondary Education, commented, for the first time, on the case of teacher Diavava Bernardo, from school 5,108 , located in the municipality of Viana, which, on the 13th of this month, organized a march against the lack of desks at the school where he teaches, involving more than 300 students, including children and adolescents.
The march, which was destined for the Municipal Administration of Viana, was interrupted by agents of the National Police, who ordered the arrest of Professor Diavava Bernardo, whose case went viral on social media.
The head of the Education portfolio confirmed the teacher’s return to freedom and declared that Diavava Bernardo disrespected the school’s management, and for this reason, the governor stressed that the teacher’s action will receive, in terms of discipline, an “appropriate response”, in function of what will, in fact, be ascertained.
“School 5,108 was in the second phase of the desk distribution process”, revealed Luísa Grilo, stressing that, if the teacher had spoken with the school’s management, he would have been duly informed about the desk distribution plan.
The Minister of Education emphasized the fact that the authorities of the municipality of Viana had made a plan for the distribution of school desks, establishing an order of priorities.
Luísa Grilo, a cadre with more than 30 years of public service in the Education sector, said that many schools already have new licenses, while others are yet to be received, whose number did not help in the conversation with journalists.
The Minister of Education said that, for having mobilized children and adolescents for a march, the teacher was “reckless” and exposed those involved in the action to various dangers, on one of the roads with heavy traffic in Luanda province.
The head of the Education portfolio stressed that there are schools with degraded desks, due to the action of students and members of the community itself, and others with an insufficient number of desks, as they are often vandalized and robbed.
Professor Diavava Bernardo was released by the Public Ministry, under terms of identity and residence, 24 hours after his arrest.
A visit to school 5,108, located in the Estalagem, by a magistrate contributed to the decision of the Public Ministry, who confirmed that there were students studying in precarious conditions, which can be seen, for example, in classrooms with an insufficient number of desks.
