Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, launched, this Thursday, the construction work of the solar energy park in the municipality of Luau, province of Moxico, with the capacity to benefit more than 20 thousand 500 homes .
The project, budgeted at more than one thousand and 27 million, 587 thousand Euros (1,027,587,914.00), will be built in an area of two thousand and 600 square meters, within three years and will be able to produce 32.2 megawatts (MWp) to benefit more than 100 thousand inhabitants of that border municipality.
The project will be supported by 55,500 panels, whose batteries will have a storage capacity of 79.77 Megawatts/hour (MWh), to be built by the company MCA.
Intervening in the aforementioned act, the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, reaffirmed the Angolan Executive’s commitment to continue investing in the creation of energy projects aimed at the production, expansion and access to clean and cheap energy in communities.
He said this is a new Era, as these are projects that could considerably reduce the use of diesel and generators in various regions of the country.
For his part, the governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, recalled that the operation of the Luau solar park will boost the development of that region, with greater predominance in agro-industry.
Luena solar park comes into operation in the first quarter of 2024
The project director for the construction of the Luena Photovoltaic Plant, Rui Silva, reaffirmed that that project, with capacity to generate 26,906 Megawatts, will be completed in the first quarter of 2024.
The person responsible was speaking during an observation visit carried out by the minister, João Baptista Borges, to that social infrastructure.
On site, João Baptista Borges recommended the need to meet contractual deadlines, as well as reinforce security and lighting around the perimeter.
Currently the municipality of Moxico (headquarters) produces a total of 25 Megawatts (MW), generated by thermal power plants and the Tchihumbue dam, with demand standing at 22 MW.
In addition to the main municipality (Moxico), Camanongue and Luau benefit from energy from the public grid, which results in coverage of 17 percent of the region’s population.
