Minister of State ensures completion of the Cuima/Cusse road

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State for Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, assured, this Thursday, the completion of national road 354, on the Cuima/Cusse section, as one of the Executive’s greatest challenges.

Remember that of the 65 kilometers in length, between Cuima (Huambo) and Cussi (Huíla), 20 are already paved and another 20 with the base layer completed.

The governor, who was speaking at the central event of the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, representing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, held under the motto “April 4th, together for the country’s inclusive growth”, recalled that the province of Huambo has a road network consisting of 14 thousand, 494.10 kilometers of roads, of which 1,398 are national roads and 13,96.1 are municipal roads.

In this context, he said that the Executive has, among other challenges, the completion of the Cuima/Cusse section, the improvement of conditions at Albano Machado airport and the optimization of the Benguela Railway so that it becomes the main logistics hub and distribution of the South zone, in line with the project to build the Logistics Platform, the first stone of which was laid in December 2023.

He stated that roads are an important factor in reducing regional asymmetries, which is why the Executive has the Road Salvation Plan in motion, because, on the one hand, there is a need to increase agricultural production, on the other, it is necessary to resolve the problems of communication routes, as all economic processes are interdependent.

For this reason, he said, several sections of roads that connect the country have been registered and are undergoing rehabilitation, namely the national road 230, between Malanje and Saurimo and the Saurimo/Dala and Desvio Lucapa-Saurimo roads, in the provinces of Lunda-Norte. and Lunda-Sul.

This process, he added, includes the rehabilitation of the sections Luau-Marco 25 – Cazombo, in the province of Moxico, Sanza Pombo/Cuito Pombo – Quimbianda –Buengas (Uige), Lucossa/Mpela –Noqui (Zaire) and Nzeto –Soyo (Zaire) , which, once completed, could boost the economy and make life better for families and companies.

Appeal against vandalization of public property

Before an audience made up of members of the Executive, Defense, Security and Internal Order bodies, parliamentarians, religious people, traditional authorities and the population in general, the government official said it was necessary for each person to act as a champion of peace.

He mentioned that, despite all the Executive’s efforts, “the enemies of national development” continue, worryingly, to vandalize equipment built with the sweat of national and foreign staff.

He said that they are localized citizens, as they are in the family, the community and, sometimes, in churches and are known, hence the need to be reported to the police authorities, to discourage such acts that harm everyone.

In particular, he called on the State’s local administration bodies to put into operation the Community Surveillance Councils, which must operate in accordance with the law, in order to prevent the commission of crimes in villages, towns, neighborhoods, cities and municipalities.

“Each of us must be an agent of national development, a defender of peace and tranquility, a promoter of justice and social progress. Let us be champions of peace in our communities (…)”, concluded the government official.

The impact of peace in Angola

He defended the need to inform young people of the suffering that the country experienced during the 27 years of war, which resulted in the loss of thousands of human lives and other resources that would be very necessary for the tasks that lead to development.

“We need to tell young people who did not witness the war, that Peace and National Independence are the greatest achievements of the Angolan people, which, for no reason, we will stop losing”, he emphasized.

Francisco Pereira Furtado, who highlighted the fact that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, had been appointed Champion of the African Union for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, said that the construction of a peaceful and developed Angola is a mission for everyone, regardless of the their political, religious or other beliefs.

He added that the importance of peace is recognized by all good Angolans, as it opens space for economic, social and human development, in addition to allowing the establishment and consolidation of democracy.

The Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic highlighted that thanks to peace, the country will carry out the second General Population Census, post-independence and, this time, the Housing Census will also be carried out.

He said it is a very important action for economic and social strategic planning, as according to the United Nations (UN), it must be carried out every 10 years.

For this reason, he urged everyone’s participation and participation in the tasks of the General Population Census, providing the information or data requested by census takers from the National Institute of Statistics (INE)

The government official also highlighted that peace made it possible to hold four consecutive electoral elections, namely in 2008, 2012, 2017 and 2022.

The event was marked by the showing of a theatrical play about peace gains, by the Artes Vozes D’África collective, as well as songs by the choral groups of the Evangelical Congregational Churches in Angola (IECA) and the 7th Day Adventist Church.

Musicians Ivanilson and Edna Mateia also animated the event that took place in the Osvaldo de Jesus Serra Van-Dúnem multipurpose pavilion, in the interior of the city of Huambo, in addition to the acrobatic gymnastics demonstration, the Angolan Armed Forces parade and presentation of offerings, as a form of gratitude for the gains of peace.
