Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, reaffirmed on Saturday the Executive’s commitment to increasing the production of consumer goods, with a view to reducing imports and accelerating food security in Angola.
The leader made this statement when inaugurating the first phase of the poultry project of the Ministry of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Country, installed in the commune of Quizenga, municipality of Cacuso.
He explained that the country is on a front that requires an increase in production capacity and recalled that this year saw the continuation of a set of initiatives that came from previous years, leading to a reduction in the import of food goods.
“The Executive launched new financial solutions to increase production capacity at the most varied levels, which will guarantee self-sufficiency, control and price stability”, he said, adding that, as long as there is dependence on imports, external factors will continue to be determinants for the national economy, hence the need to improve domestic production.
He highlighted the existence of many initiatives in the productive sector, with emphasis on rice production, as there is still a deficit in this segment, at a time when the country imports around 600 thousand tons of cereal per year, compared to the 40 thousand produced internally, in addition to sugar, whose internal production capacity meets only 40 percent of Angolans’ needs.
In the poultry sector, according to José de Lima Massano, dependence is also high, judging by the fact that the country imports 300 thousand tons annually and produces only 22 thousand, which is why he encouraged private sector intervention in increasing food production, given the conditions created by the Executive to attract foreign and national investors, in favor of a more dynamic economy.
Regarding the poultry project of the Ministry of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Country, he considered it an ambitious initiative, as it will also contribute to the generation of more jobs and promotion of the socio-economic development of families.
He challenged Jampur Group, a partner of the Ministry of National Defense in implementing the project, to invest in rice production in the region, with a view to meeting the deficit that the country records.
The poultry project now inaugurated includes 140 ships, of which 60 for the province of Malanje and 80 for Cuanza Norte, each with five thousand chicks, and a slaughterhouse and expects to produce seven million chickens/year in the provinces of Malanje and Cuanza Norte, the from March 2024.
