Minister promises improvements in water supply in Chitato

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, promised Friday, in Dundo, improvements in the supply of drinking water to the municipality of Chitato, northern Lunda Norte province, with the replacement of two electric pump groups at the Collection and Distribution Center from Luachimo.

Speaking to the press at the end of his working visit, the minister assured that in addition to the recovery of two of the four pumps, there is already a line of financing for the acquisition of two new ones to solve the problem.

The urban districts of Dundo, Chitato and Mussungue have been deprived of drinking water since January due to a failure in the electric pumps at the Luachimo collection and distribution centre, caused by a flood.

The fact forced families to resort to rivers and cisterns to get water.

On the other hand, João Borges, promised to resume the rehabilitation works of the Cambulo Water Collection, Treatment and Distribution System, paralyzed since 2015, due to financial problems.

The Water and Sanitation Company (EPAS) has 15,000 customers, 3,856 of which in the Mussungue Centrality. Two water collection, treatment and distribution systems are available, with 200 and 560 cubic meters, respectively.
