Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, began a 48-hour visit to China on Monday, where he will participate in the Ministerial Conference of Coordinators for the Implementation of the Outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in the city of Changsha.

The meeting, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent, is a high-level gathering that brings together representatives of African countries and China, with the aim of monitoring and coordinating the implementation of the commitments made during the FOCAC summits.

The meeting is convened at strategic moments between the major FOCAC summits, usually held every three years, with the purpose of adjusting cooperation strategies and projects in accordance with the changes in the needs of African countries and the priorities of Chinese foreign policy.It also aims to refine bilateral and multilateral coordination, ensuring that projects are being implemented effectively and to prepare the conditions for the next FOCAC summit, defining priority themes.

Since 2007, Angola has been China’s largest trading partner in Africa, with a turnover that totaled US$24.8 billion in 2010 alone.

Ten years later, the value of trade with China rose by 61 percent, that is, to US$5.55 billion. In 2018, the year in which President João Lourenço was in Beijing, China approved a new line of financing worth two billion dollars.

This partnership is based on equality and mutually beneficial benefits and, in addition to contributing to the development of both countries, has helped to establish a new international political and economic order and promote the democratization of international relations.In Angola, China is active in a wide range of areas of the country’s economic and social life, with a strong presence in the areas of training personnel, having been instrumental in the construction and equipping of the Integrated Technological Training Centre (CINFOTEC) in Huambo province and the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy in Luanda, as well as scholarships for young Angolans.

Relations between Angola and China date back to 1983 and reached their peak in 2000, when the Asian giant began to make loans to the country to rebuild infrastructure destroyed by the war and to boost the national economy.
