Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, on Sunday in Abidjan, highlighted the strong cooperative relations between Angola and Côte d’Ivoire, based on advantageous agreements between the two countries.

Téte António was speaking to the Angolan press, moments after disembarking in the Ivorian capital, where he will be part of the Presidential delegation that will participate, this Monday, in the inauguration ceremony of Alassane Dramane Ouattara, re-elected President of Côte d’Ivoire.

The Angolan Head of State and acting President of the African Union will be present at the investiture ceremony of the re-elected President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Dramane Ouattara, in the company of other international dignitaries.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, President João Lourenço’s visit to Abidjan is justified by his role as leader of the African Union and the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, which include agreements with reciprocal advantages.

For the Angolan leader, the electoral process that led to the inauguration of the President of Côte d’Ivoire serves as an example to be followed.

He noted that this demonstrates commitment to democratic principles and the African Charter for Democracy, which emphasizes the importance of legitimate electoral processes and discourages unconstitutional changes of government.

“Côte d’Ivoire, with its remarkable economic development and political stability, represents the type of progress that Africa seeks, as set out in the African Union’s Agenda 2063”, said the minister.

It understands that the trajectory of the Ivorian Nation, combined with its strategic role, justifies support and recognition from the African Union.

“The bilateral relationship between Angola and Côte d’Ivoire is excellent and, proof of this, is the recent visit of the President of Côte d’Ivoire to Angola, in which several legal instruments were signed, some of which are already being implemented”, recalled the minister.

He emphasized that the objective is to continually strengthen this partnership, for whom physical presence and official visits, such as the one President João Lourenço will make, are important indicators of the depth and quality of relations between the two countries.

Bilateral meetings are planned, given the presence of several Heads of State and Government, as well as representatives of international organizations.

The Angolan Head of State may hold meetings with some of these entities, although specific details have not yet been disclosed.

According to Téte António, in addition to formal meetings, informal conversations between Heads of State are a valuable opportunity to discuss relevant issues and strengthen cooperation ties.

Alassane Ouattara, 83 years old, was re-elected on October 25th for a fourth term with 89.77% of the votes.

An economist by profession, Alassane Ouattara made a career at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) becoming Deputy Director General of this international financial institution created in 1944 to promote global economic stability.

He entered politics as Prime Minister in the period 1990–1993 and in 2010 he ran and won the elections.

Since then, he has consolidated power and been re-elected several times, standing out for the country’s economic growth.
