Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, visited, this Saturday, the Brazilian ship “Araguari”, moored in the Port of Luanda, to learn about the routine on board and the different activities carried out by the vessel.

According to a press note, accompanied by the Brazilian ambassador to Angola, the official presided over the reception ceremony of the Brazilian Navy ship, in the capital since Friday night.

The “Araguari” is an Amazonas-class ocean patrol vessel. The homonym of his name is the city with the same name, located in the State of Minas Gerais.

It is the fourth ship to bear this name in the Navy of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

In peacetime, the “Araguari” has the mission of monitoring the resources of the Angolan territorial sea, the contiguous zone and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), in addition to oil platforms, preventing sabotage actions, and carrying out Search and Rescue operations. Salvage (SAR), along the extensive maritime area under the responsibility of Brazil.

It is also responsible for repressing illicit activities, such as illegal fishing, smuggling, drug trafficking and pollution of the marine environment, with two (2) speedboats to assist in these operations.

In case of conflict, the ship patrols Brazilian jurisdictional waters, carrying out surveillance and defense of the coast, coastal maritime areas and oil exploration platforms and defense of ports.
