Minister wants more robust diplomatic service

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed, Monday (21), in Luanda, that the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy should continue to invest in building a more robust diplomatic service, capable of contributing to raising the country’s prestige abroad.

Téte António, who was speaking at the opening of the second edition of the celebrations of the Patron’s Day of the Diplomatic Academy Venâncio de Moura, said that the institution is participating in the insertion of more Angolan cadres in national and regional multilateral organizations, as well as contributing to the development of the concept of Economic Diplomacy, which is a foreign policy priority.

He stressed that the Academy must feed foreign policy, with differentiated scientific production, in the multiple fields of intervention of Angolan diplomacy and work hard in training, capacity building and specialization actions for staff.

For the head of Angolan diplomacy, these are results that the board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects and, also, give an account of the guidelines of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

He informed that the holding of the second edition of the day of Venâncio de Moura, patron of the Academy, now in an expanded format, will have a week of cultural, sports and scientific events, whose actions raise the responsibility of the organizers, for the media impact, on the one hand, and , on the other hand, due to the growing interest that the life and work of former minister Venâncio de Moura is beginning to arouse in the young population.

“In the next editions we will be able to erect a bust in a visible place, publish the posthumous biography of Venâncio de Moura, where his diplomatic thought should be immortalized, as well as the production of a more developed documentary”, he highlighted. Téte António believes that, based on the diplomatic service provided to the country, there is a conviction that the media have the audio-visual files that can feed this process.

According to the minister, Venâncio de Moura’s week is a favorable occasion for the exchange of experiences and a fruitful inter-generational dialogue, for whom the testimonies to be made are an indispensable asset in the elaboration of the history of Angolan diplomacy.

Angolans in Ukraine

Asked about the situation of Angolans in Ukraine, especially students in the face of tension in that European country, Téte António said that the lives of fellow citizens is always a concern of the Executive. “We are in contact with our Embassy in Moscow. We do not want to be spokespersons for the worst case scenario, but prevention is not only part of human life but also diplomatic”, he said, without giving further details.

Made by Venancio Moura

On the other hand, the widow of Venâncio de Moura, Mariana Moura, pointed out that her husband always carried the word “win” and won in everything he idealized and implemented since the beginning of national independence.

“He was a person who, from a very young age, always spoke of the need for the country to be independent, even against the will of the colonialists”, he underlined, adding that the recognition and tributes are “rewarding”.

Mariana Moura also mentioned that Venâncio de Moura, while working on behalf of Angolan diplomacy, never took a vacation: “He has a son who practically did not live with him because of his hard work”.

Mariana Moura advised young people who intend to enter the diplomatic career to continue studying with effort and dedication to contribute to the great legacy of Venâncio de Moura.

On the occasion, the director of the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy, Marcos Barrica, said that the celebration of the institution’s Patron’s Day is a simple act, but loaded with a lot of symbolism for the unavoidable figure of diplomacy of the sovereign nation.

“The program conceived for the event augurs the participation of dozens of actors of social and community valences, involving, above all, young people as a deserved tribute to the minister and diplomat”, he said.
